Chinese Gardens

The Chinese Gardens opened in Dunedin in 2008 and are the first authentic Chinese Gardens for New Zealand and indeed the Southern Hemisphere. They are only the third outside of China.

The Garden was designed and contructed in Shanghai collaberating with the Dunedin Chinese Garden Trust. It was then dismanted before shipping to Dunedin.

An architect from Shanghai and the Shanghai Museum supervised the reconstruction in Dunedin and some craftsmen from Shanghai came to Dunedin also to work on the project.

These Gardens are are situated in the Central City area next to The Otago Settlers' Museum.
