Dunedin's historic Railway Station is a must see when you visit Dunedin.
Designed by George Troup, it was opened in 1906 and was one of the busiest railway stations in New Zealand.
With the decline in the City's economy and later the decline in rail transport the function of the Dunedin Railway Station has changed.
It now houses many different attractions such as The New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, The Otago Art Society Gallery upstairs as well as restaurants and the Taieri Gorge Excusion Train Booking Office on the ground floor.
Once a year the platform becomes a catwalk, hosting the South Island's main fashion show. Each Saturday in the grounds outside the station, a Farmer's Market is held and is increasing in popularity.
The building itself incorporates a large mosaic tile floor in the entrance foyer, which used to be the booking hall and can be viewed more easily from the balcony above.
This building is also rated in the top 100 buildings to see in the World and where else can you find a place like this, only right here in Dunedin.
